Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the negative comments from others kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.

He began playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning period and winning wasn't a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
