Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn't allow the negative feedback from other people kill his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an undying love for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
