Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender in the world by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn't permit the adverse comments from other people kill his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn't a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and always strives to improve.

Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
