Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor in the world by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn't let the adverse feedback from others kill his goal of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn't a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
