Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn't permit the negative feedback from other people destroy his dream of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. He states that he's learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
