Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for poker. Phil says that he's picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
