Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His papa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse feedback from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
