Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn't allow the detrimental feedback from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn't a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an undying love for poker. Phil says that he's picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
