Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor in the world by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative comments from others annihilate his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He started playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and winning wasn't a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He states that he's picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
