Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative comments from others kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

Phil started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
