Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player on the planet by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn't let the adverse comments from others annihilate his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He began playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching period and winning wasn't a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
