Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn't a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
