Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn't permit the detrimental feedback from other people kill his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying love for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his success. He admits to making errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Phil has won some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
