Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental feedback from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn't a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
