Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender in the world by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn't permit the adverse feedback from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for poker. Phil states that he's learning every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
