Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn every little thing he could about poker. He routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn't allow the adverse comments from other people kill his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an undying love for poker. He states that he's picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always strives to improve.

Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
