Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the adverse comments from other people kill his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil states that he's learning every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
