Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the globe by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn anything he could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

He started playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn't a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. He states that he's learning every day and is very abashed about his success. He knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and always strives to get better.
