Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn't allow the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil says that he's learning every day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
