Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn't allow the negative feedback from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He started competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn't a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
