Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the globe by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. He would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn't let the negative feedback from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he's picking up skills every day and is very humble about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
