Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the globe by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental comments from others destroy his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn't a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
