Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental comments from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn't a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
