Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental feedback from others kill his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn't a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
