Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

He began playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
