Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative comments from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning opportunity and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
