Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the globe by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn't a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable love for poker. He says that he's learning every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
