Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor in the world by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn't let the detrimental comments from others annihilate his goal of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He started competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn't a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
