Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental feedback from others kill his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for poker. Phil states that he's picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
