Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

He began playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
