Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover whatever he could about the game. He would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative comments from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He began playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn't a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his success. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
