Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn whatever he could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental comments from other people kill his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He began competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an undying passion for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors every single session of poker and always strives to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
